"In A Different Light"

Take You at Your Word
My dad always taught us that our word is our honor, and if we break that, then basically everything is broken. Most people have really gotten away from that, but when you think about the promises of God, I think it's very easy to take the promises of Scripture for granted, especially when our plans don't turn out as we hoped. If He doesn't work that way in my life, it doesn't negate the fact that He's trustworthy and I can build my life on Him. Ultimately, He's the one in control, and He knows what's best for me when most of the time I don't.

In Not Of
This is just a reminder to us as Christians to be able to see people through the eyes of Christ. If we love them the way Christ loves us, if we pour that out to them, it will in turn draw them into this kingdom rather than push them away.

In A Different Light
As we journey through God's perfect will, we can't always see what lies ahead, but we can hold on to the promise that He holds the treasures for those who obey His call. (Jeremiah 29:11-14)

Can't Live a Day
There are people who live without love, people who live having given up on dreams and people who live in the consequences of bad choices. The one thing that separates Christians from those who don't have Christ is that, regardless of what we have or don't have in our lives, we have hope. No matter how bad things get, we have that hope of knowing Jesus and knowing that everything may not turn out the way we planned, but ultimately, He has a bigger plan for our lives. Our hope is not in our circumstances because those will change. Our happiness and our peace are found in the Lord. Without Him, life would be meaningless.

Always Have, Always Will
This song is very biographical for me. There's a part of me that really wants to please God, and there's a part of me that wants to rebel. There are many songs about dilemma, but this song approaches it differently. It's like, yes, I'm a rebellious person. I always have been; I always will be. But in the second verse it says, but I run back to you, I always have and I always will. And that's true. We test the waters and we see how far on the limb that we can go but when it starts to crack and we see how far in the air we really are, we run back to safety, Jesus Christ.

If My People Pray
Now it seems like everything is in turmoil. There's so much chaos in the world-the Clinton thing, the crisis with Iraq, and even the stock market's shaky. When I hear the chorus of this song, it's like God is crying out to us saying, "Hey, I want to help you if you'll let Me."

I'm Speechless
I was going through a really hard time in my life. I was so bad off I felt like God had just forgotten about me. At my lowest point, I called my mom, and she said, "Cherie, you need to go to church." So that's what I did. There was an evangelist speaking, and as I walked in the doors, he said, "Is there a Cherie here?" Now, I had never met this man, but he began to say things to me that only I know. It was the most unbelievable experience of my life. And when I read the words of this song, my first response was, "I've got to do this song. This really best represents how I feel." Especially the second verse where it says, "I tried to write this song/ I've searched my heart for phrases/but they only catch a glimpse of all you are" I had tried to write about that experience, to convey the tangibility that I felt between me and God for the first time in so long, and this song just said it all.

Only for the Weak
God loves the apparent inadequacies of this world, for it is in them His true power is seen most vividly.(Ex.4:10-11)

Let Your Love
Where have you been looking for love? It is right before your eyes in Jesus. (Jude 21, 2 Timothy 2:22)

Hide My Soul
We meet so many hurting people who feel like that, there's no place they can hide, no where to turn. I think even sometimes people feel like, "Well, I would turn to Jesus, but He's not there. I need something tangible. I need drugs or I need alcohol. Whatever they may choose, this song communicates the answer to the question, "Where can I hide?" in such a broken, contrite way. Even though I grew up in the church, I have been to that place where I knew I was supposed to turn to Him, but I didn't until it was absolutely the last resort. And thank God, because of His grace and faithfulness, we are always welcome.

First Love
The honesty of these words really drew me in. This song is a challenge to pursue God more fervently. (Lam. 3:40)
